Mobility & transport
Practical Tips
How we get about can have a big impact on our wellbeing and the health of the planet. Many people find it difficult to make different choices, and options are not always readily available. We need to lobby for changes, like regular small, low carbon buses that allow more of us to leave our cars at home; but these changes could take time to emerge. In the meantime we can find practical ways to explore different ways to get around.
What small steps can we take immediately? A few Practical Tips:
Employees and employers: Take full advantage of the Government’s Cycle to Work Scheme.
Consider cycling instead of driving sometimes (and with an electric bike, your range will be greatly increased and your ability to cope with our steep hills).
Use public transport when you can and when it is safe to do so (wear a mask to keep yourself and others safe).
Make use of the cycle track from Nailsworth to Stroud with its great new surface. Walkers, runners and cyclists can all use it - so respect each others - and use a bell in good time when approaching walkers and runners on a bike.
Respect the speed limit when driving, which will help reduce pollution, and make it safer for other road users.
Unsure about getting an electric bike? Why not ask Dan at Edemo bike shop in town, who can provide excellent advice.
Thinking of changing your car, then take a look at Electric Vehicles (EVs). The choices are increasing all the time, as is the range. People we ask say “I’ll never go back”.
We have been gathering ideas on more significant changes that can be made in this area, so please visit the corresponding Projects/Mobility&transport page to understand more about what people are proposing.
