Get Involved in Climate Action!

Our next meeting on Wednesday 17th July at 7:30 pm, upstairs at the Arkell Centre, will be open to all and will focus on PROJECT ideas (please arrive at 7.15 for 7.30 start; meeting will run till 9pm).

We are on the look out for anyone who is interested in becoming actively involved in events or projects around any of our themes:

  • Buildings

  • Energy production

  • Food & agriculture

  • Mobility & transport

  • Nature conservation

  • Recycling & waste

If you would like to get involved with any of these, get in touch by contacting us at nailsworthcan@gmail.com

Here’s a taster of our existing and ongoing projects.

Community Energy - engaging local people on the benefits and possibilities of community energy and identifying potential projects for Nailsworth and its neighbourhood. A few candidate projects for solar are being considered and more ideas are welcome.

Nailsworth CAN Grow It – this is a local support network for anyone growing anything to eat. There is a monthly meeting and WhatsApp group. To join message ‘Grow It’ to 07932 623672.

Nailsworth Green Directory - Find out about businesses in Nailsworth that are making a conscious effort to be more sustainable. From the chef who switched to compostable take-away boxes to the computer shop that fixes and recycles, there are lots of people in Nailsworth trying to change the way we live, work and shop. If you are interested in helping to update and promote the Green Directory get in touch.

All About Retrofit - The word ‘retrofit’ applies to anything done to your existing property to reduce heat loss, improve air quality, eliminate damp issues, move off gas. Not all houses are the same and older houses may require specialist help and advice. From draught proofing to solar panels, we showcase local projects and information sources to make your home healthier and more energy efficient. We’re looking for more great examples of retrofit projects – perhaps you have a contribution to make, or can offer advice and expertise?

Library of Things – A library of things is a place where you can borrow DIY tools, leisure gear, toys etc. The idea is that we can all save money and resources by borrowing instead of buying. These exist in other parts of the County, could you play an active part in creating this community resource in Nailsworth?

We are interested in proposals for projects/events that further the aims of NailsworthCAN from any supporter in the locality who is willing to take on a leading role. We have created a simple form to allow such ideas to by our Steering Group. The aim is to support each other and engage in local, positive action on climate and nature. You can register / offer up a project idea using the online form here: www.nailsworthcan.org/projectidea

Here are some ideas of ‘could do’ projects and we are keen to hear if you would like to get involved or come forward with new ideas:

Stand up for Wildlife – what can we do locally to enhance nature around Nailsworth and improve access to our surroundings for all to benefit and enjoy?

Mending & Refashioning – keeping clothes in good nick and in use for longer; would you like to help set up a sewing shed or mending group locally?

Garage & Shed Sale – could you help set up a trail in your local street for people to buy or swap pre-loved household or garden items?
